Fraction Day
Is there a better way to practice fractions than to have a "whole" school day to celebrate them? Today we celebrated Fraction Day! We participated in a variety of fun fraction activities that will hopefully enhance our understanding of fractions. Happy Fraction Day!
Fraction Day Snack
The best way to start off Fraction Day? A fraction themed snack during snack time of course! These double sided cookies were one half vanilla and one half chocolate. Perfect for our special day!
My Fraction Day Stories
Students listened to a read-aloud story called, "My Half Day" where the main character woke up and his whole day was oddly effected by fractions (one half of his head was shaved, two thirds of his milk was paste, five ninths of the soccer team he played against was from outer space, etc.) We then wrote our own fraction day stories where they became the main character in their story and had their own strange fraction day. When they were finished, they created a cover for their story by decorating a person figure to look them them on Fraction Day.
Fraction Hats
Students created these fun fraction hats to wear on our special day!
Star Wars Task Cards Scavenger Hunt
Students searched the room for Star Wars themed task cards, and solved the fraction problem on each card on their recording sheet.
