Classroom Rules
We will work together as a classroom community to create norms and expectations for our learning space. Here are examples of last year's rules. Once students create this year's rules they will be shared below.
This year, we created our own set of rules for our classroom. This will help us have ownership over our learning space and community. Here are the rules we created together!

Here's a glimpse at a typical school day in life of our third graders

*All students have the opportunity to receive a free breakfast every day. They will eat their breakfast during morning work time. Morning work is typically a math practice page. Upon completion of their morning work students will be given the opportunity to read quietly or participate in various reading and math activities.
*During this time of the day, instruction will typically start with a mini-lesson on a given topic and will then break out into reading centers. Students will have the opportunity to work on their fluency, comprehension, and more during this block. Each day, we will also participate in a block of time devoted to writing. We will learn how to improve our writing style, write narrative and expository works, and edit our work before publication. *See "Specialist Schedule" under "Our Classroom" for the schedule. *During recess, we will use the front of the school yard. This means we have access to the playground, front field, and basketball court. We will go over recess expectations during the first week of school, and we will review them as necessary. All students have the opportunity to get a free lunch from our cafeteria each day. *The teacher will read a picture book after lunch each day, as a cool down from lunch. *This will most likely be our time for ELA centers, where students *Our class will begin with a math activator or energizer- a quick way to get our brains thinking about numbers in a fun way. Then we will spend approximately 20 minutes in a whole group mini lesson, where a new concept will be introduced. Students will then break out into math groups which will allow us to review and practice concepts we have been working on. Students will also have the opportunity to meet in small group with the teacher for focused, small group instruction. *Students are given the opportunity to eat a snack from home or select an item from the extra foods left over from breakfast. While they eat, a selection from a chapter book will be read aloud and discussed. *Some days we will learn about various scientific topics- including but not limited- to magnets, weather/ climate, ecosystems, engineering, and more! Other days we will use our new Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program to develop our social skills. *Clean up, pack folders, pass out raffle tickets, & dismissal |
