Game Day
For our third glitter paw reward our class voted to bring in games to play with their classmates. We had so much fun exploring and learning new games. Thank you to everyone who leant us a game for the day!
Grams & Kilograms
We are learning about various types of measurements. Today we learned to estimate weights in grams and kilograms. We used dictionaries to estimate the weight of a kilogram. Students worked together to estimate and determine weights.

Shoe Measurement
Students traced around the sole of their shoe and cut it out. They had a few minutes to decorate them before we hung them up around the room. Students will travel around the room to measure (to the nearest quarter inch) and then plot the data on a line plot.
Magic Show!
Our wonderful PAC provided a magic show for all students on Tuesday of this week. Not only were the tricks amazing, but one of the students in our class was chosen to be an assistant on stage. Thank you to our PAC for providing such wonderful entertainment!
Measurement Introduction
In second grade, students used rulers to measure items to the nearest inch. In third grade, we are using rulers to measure objects to the nearest half inch and quarter inch. Here are some photographs of our students using their rulers to measure objects to the precise length.

Fossil Dig
To wrap up our unit on fossils, our paleontologists dug out fossils from rocks. Each group tried to determine what they had unearthed, but it wasn't until we put all of the bones together that we were able to figure out what animal we discovered!
Students were sent home with their paleontologist hats and a new book on dinosaurs

Telling Time Review
Our upcoming math unit will cover all sorts of ways to measure and various measuring tools. We had a few extra minutes after our test on fractions, so we broke out the mini clocks and reviewed some telling time skills from first and second grade. Having these basics mastered will make telling time to the exact minute easier, when we get there in a week or so.
MCAS Jeopardy Review
We are getting geared up for the upcoming ELA MCAS test. We are taking practice tests, analyzing student essay samples, and playing games to make sure that we are as prepared as possible. This week students worked in teams to play MCAS Jeopardy!

Fossil Exploration
As we are learning about how fossils are formed,
we had the amazing opportunity to explore some real fossils with our magnifying glasses!

Fraction Tiles
We have been working on identifying fractions and plotting fractions on number lines. This week we are beginning to learn about equivalent fractions. Today students explored fraction tiles, which we used to create fractions that are the same size as an original benchmark fraction. These math manipulatives will be available for students to use throughout the week as we continue to learn about equivalent fractions.
